The System That Works
All Year Round

Heat pumps have the ability to heat your home during the winter time and keep your home cool with consistent AC during the summer months.

That dual role makes a heat pump a strong option for homes in Greenwood County and all of South Carolina, and it also means the system runs far more hours a year than a furnace or an air conditioner does on its own. A heat pump earns its yearly service visit.

Home Comfort Systems handles heat pump work for both residential and commercial applications, and our licensed and insured HVAC technicians offer full heat pump service regardless of the brand. Pick the service you need below.

Most Heat Pump Faults Trace Back to the Install

Heat pump heating or cooling problems are often caused by improper installation or maintenance, which is worth knowing before you assume a system is worn out.

When a heat pump underperforms, the fault is frequently something that was set wrong at the beginning and has been quietly costing you ever since. These are the causes we find most often on service calls in Greenwood and the surrounding area.

Common Causes We Diagnose

  • Improper equipment sizing. If the system is undersized, interior temperatures cannot be maintained in extreme weather.
  • Improper ductwork. Ducts that are not properly sized leave some areas too cool and other rooms too hot.
  • Condensate problems. Water accumulating below the air handler because of an improperly designed drain connection.
  • Outdoor unit icing. In heating mode the outdoor unit should be free of snow or ice; ice around the base causes capacity problems or system failures.
  • Refrigerant leaks. The heat pump is not turning on, or not cooling or heating properly.
  • Obstructed or clogged coils. Low system capacity, or heavy frost on the indoor coil during cooling, which usually means inadequate airflow.
  • Repeat breaker trips. More than one trip can point to improper wiring or a failing compressor, fan motor or capacitor.

If any of that sounds like your system, book heat pump repair. If the diagnosis is a sizing or ductwork problem baked in from day one, our heat pump installation page explains how we avoid repeating it.

Heat Pump Questions

Yes. A heat pump heats your home during the winter and keeps it cool with consistent AC through the summer, so you get both seasons from one system instead of a separate furnace and air conditioner. Heat pumps transfer heat rather than generate it.

Yes. We offer all heat pump repairs for both residential and commercial applications, and our licensed and insured HVAC technicians provide full heat pump service regardless of the brand.

In heating mode the outdoor unit should be free of snow or ice. If ice accumulates around its base it will cause capacity problems or system failures, so it is worth having a technician look at it rather than waiting.

At least once a year. We provide custom maintenance checks for all heat pump makes and models, and the best time to book is before the winter or summer season arrives rather than waiting until something goes wrong. Every visit varies slightly with the age and condition of the heat pump.
