Every Central AC Service
Under One Roof

Summertime in Greenwood brings hot and humid temperatures, and air conditioning is a must for your home and your business.

Home Comfort Systems has served Upstate and Midland SC since 2002, and our air conditioning work falls into three jobs: fixing a system that has stopped cooling, tuning one that still works so it keeps working, and installing a new system when repair no longer makes sense. This page is the starting point for all three.

Our technicians are certified and insured, and we work on all makes and models of central air conditioning, so you do not need to have bought your system from us to have us service it. Pick the service you need below, or call and we will help you work out which one it is.

Repair It, or Replace It?

Most homes and businesses here in South Carolina and the Greenwood area use central air conditioning units to stay cool and comfortable during the summer, and the question we get asked most is whether a system is worth fixing.

Central air conditioners are usually reliable and efficient, and make sense to use in spaces that already have central ductwork installed. But like all mechanical systems, sometimes they need repair or tune-ups. When we send a technician out we evaluate and diagnose the unit thoroughly and give you a job estimate ahead of time, because we value being transparent about our costs. That estimate is what the repair-or-replace decision should be built on, not a guess.

Signs Your AC Needs a Technician

  • Air conditioning is not turning on or not cooling
  • Indoor temperature too hot or too cold
  • Some rooms are properly conditioned and some are too warm
  • Indoor coil or refrigerant lines covered with heavy frost or ice
  • Breaker to the outdoor unit tripped more than once
  • A vibration or odd noise with the outdoor or indoor unit
  • Thermostat not working properly
  • Leaking condensate system

If any of those describe your system, start with AC repair. If the diagnosis points to a system that is old enough and worn enough that repair stops making financial sense, our AC installation page covers what a replacement involves.

Sizing Is the Whole Ballgame

An improperly sized AC is the leading cause of dissatisfaction with a new air conditioner system. A unit that is oversized will not dehumidify properly and will be unnecessarily loud, inefficient, and more expensive to install, which is why we calculate the correct system size for your home or business before we quote anything.

Sizing is only part of it. Your new outdoor unit is one piece of the system: a properly matched coil combined with a compatible air handler or gas furnace completes an AHRI matched efficient system. Ductwork matters too. Properly sized duct work gives you the right temperature drop across the indoor coil, and insulated ducts prevent the condensation and water damage that come from an uninsulated run.

Air Conditioner Questions

We use Armstrong Air for our new air conditioner installations and replacements. Armstrong Air offers models from 14+ SEER2 through 20+ SEER2, so there is an efficiency level and a budget to match most homes in the Upstate and Midland SC area.

Yes. We work with all makes and models of central AC systems, so you do not need to have purchased your system from us to have our team repair or service it.

Common signs are a system that will not turn on or will not cool, rooms that stay too warm while others are comfortable, heavy frost or ice on the indoor coil or refrigerant lines, a breaker to the outdoor unit that has tripped more than once, a vibration or odd noise, a thermostat that is not working properly, and a leaking condensate system.

Once a year. The annual tune-up list varies according to the equipment type and its age, but every visit covers the outdoor blower motor and fan, the capacitor, the contactor, the high voltage connections, the outdoor coil, the disconnect, the refrigerant lines and insulation, the indoor units, and the filters. An annual AC tune-up is also included in the Home Comfort Club.
