Ductwork matters too. Common signs are a system that will not turn on or will not cool, rooms that stay too warm while others are comfortable, heavy frost or ice on the indoor coil or refrigerant lines, a breaker to the outdoor unit that has tripped more than once, a vibration or odd noise, a thermostat that is not working properly, and a leaking condensate system.

The annual tune-up list varies according to the equipment type and its age, but every visit covers the outdoor blower motor and fan, the capacitor, the contactor, the high voltage connections, the outdoor coil, the disconnect, the refrigerant lines and insulation, the indoor units, and the filters.
